Troop training activities at Fort Hood cause severe land disturbance, loss of vegetative cover and sub sequent soil erosion. Many best management practices (BMP), designed to reduce the impacts of training exercise, have been implemented by the Fort Hood land management staff. Cooperating agencies included are: the Department of Public Works - Environmental Division, the Integrated Training Area Management group (ITAM), and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Utilized BMP's include sediment traps, dedicated roadways, designated stream crossings, brush clearing operations, riparian area establishment and re-vegetation.
