TASK 2: Monitor Water Quality Effects
Objective: To monitor water quality in the selected Leon River sub-watersheds.
Subtask 2.1 Prepare Quality Assurance Project Plan and submit to TWDB, for approval. (Month 1 through month 3)
Subtask 2.2 Establish 2 storm water-sampling stations equipped with ISCO 4230 Flow meters and 3700 Automatic samplers (month 1 through month 3).
- Purchase storm water monitoring and sampling equipment, equipment restoration and building supporting items needed to install automated sites (Month 1).
- Select sites to conduct water quality sampling for grab sampling and to locate storm water sampling equipment
(Month 1).
- Survey sampling sites, noting cross sectional and channel slope (Months 1-6).
- Install storm water sampling stations and initiate monitoring collection protocol (Months 1-6).
Subtask 2.3 Analyze samples for water quality parameters in accordance with the QAPP (Month 2 through end of project).
- Collect grab samples monthly to characterize water quality and establish baseline concentrations (Months 2-24).
- Collect water samples during storm water runoff events using ISCO sampling stations. Up to four samples per site per event will be analyzed to evaluate the water quality parameters (Months 2-24).
- Analyze all water samples in the BREC laboratory for sediments (TSS), nitrates, and phosphates. In addition, grab samples will be analyzed for fecal coliform, pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, and temperature upon collection (Months 2-24).
- Sampling will be initiated prior to the project and continue for 12-24 months after completion of the project under separate funding to quantify total effectiveness of rangeland clearing.
